Junior Livestock entries bring in $160,000 for Sanpete County Fair
MANTI—Livestock raised by 99 children and teens from Sanpete County, ranging from ages 6 to 18, brought in $160,000 at auction in the Sanpete County Junior Livestock Show and Sale at the Sanpete County Fair, according to Marci Childs, treasurer of the association.
“We live in a very generous county. We have a lot of generous businesses, Curtis said, adding, “All of the money went to the kids.”
Grand and reserve champions were selected in each of 24 categories. The categories provided for competition in “market” and “bred and owned” animals as well as livestock “showmanship.”
In the market and bred-and-owned categories, animals were judged on their weight and suitability for market. In showmanship, youngsters were judged on how well they prepared, handled and presented their animals.
Types of livestock judged included swine, lambs, goats, beef and dairy goats.
