GLENDALE, Ariz.—The Snow College women’s basketball team went to Arizona last weekend and broke its four-game losing streak with a victory over Glendale Community College, 69-41.
After losing three in a row in Colorado Springs, Colo., the week before, the Badgers were looking to get off the schneid during their road trip to Arizona last weekend. The trip did not start well, with a close loss to Mesa Community College on Friday, 46-49.
“We played better last weekend, yet the Mesa game was still disappointing,” said Head Coach Mike Russell. “We led most of the game, but we had crucial mistakes down the stretch. We had three costly turnovers in the last two minutes, and coupled with going 9-16 from the free-throw line, we really didn’t do what had to do to win.”
Megan Carr once again led the team in points with 14, followed closely by Savannah Lucero with 11. Savannah Domgaard led the team in rebounds with 9.
But on Saturday, the Badgers broke through with a dominating, wire-to-wire win over Glendale.
“The Glendale game was actually great,” he said. “We played four solid quarters and played to our strengths, which we haven’t done much so far. We changed up some things with our defense schematically, and it made a difference.”
Lucero was the leading scorer versus Glendale, with 18 points. Domgaard had 15, and Carr chipped in 10 points.
This week, the Badgers traveled to Riverton, Wyo., to take on Central Wyoming on Wednesday (after time of press), and this weekend will go to Gillette, Wyo. to take part in the Gillette College Holiday Classic. The Badgers will take on Gillette College on Friday and the Colorado Spring Ballers on Saturday.
