Lady Bulldogs drop season opener, 51-30

GUNNISON—The Gunnison girls basketball team made the best of a tough situation, but ended with a 51-30 loss anyway when they hosted Summit Academy, ranked No. 5 in 2A, for their season opener.

The Lady Bears led by nine at halftime and broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 17-9.

Summit Academy was led by a monster game from Chelsea Drury, who had a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds, and had three steals on defense.

Although Gunnison was effective is spreading the scoring around, their highest scorer was sophomore Sheridan Sorensen with nine points.

Gunnison’s biggest struggle came in the form of taking care of the ball. Summit managed to steal 21 times.

Coming up, the Lady Bulldogs play at Wasatch Academy on Tuesday. They will travel to Maeser Prep tonight at 7 p.m.
