MT. PLEASANT—The basketball season began in winning fashion for the North Sanpete girls basketball team after the Lady Hawks nurtured a lead over three quarters and held on to win against visiting Lehi, 49-35.
Sophomore Lexie Olsen led the Hawks with 16 points, while senior Angela Clayton had 11. Junior Catherine Lund was impressive from a distance, burying three from beyond the line.
North Sanpete held the Pioneers to less than ten points in every quarter except the fourth. Meanwhile, the Lady Hawks offensive production grew every quarter, with North Sanpete holding a 17-point lead going into the fourth quarter.
The win not only started North Sanpete’s season in the win column, but it also served to avenge the Lady Hawks bitter 39-36 loss to the Pioneers last season.
With the home win in-hand, the Lady Hawks are headed on a two-game road trip. They fought Millard on Tuesday, but the score is unavailable. They face Morgan today at 7 p.m.
