North Sanpete softball had their run in the playoff cut short as they fell to Canyon View, 13-2, last Thursday in the one-loss bracket.
Prior to the loss, North Sanpete fell out of the winner’s bracket with an 11-0 loss to Grantsville, then beat down Providence Hall to advance in the one-loss bracket to face the Falcons. The Lady Hawks finished their season with an overall record of 13-17.
As had been the case for much of the season, North Sanpete’s ability to hit the ball had extreme highs and lows. The team combined for only one hit against Grantsville, who went on to lose to eventual champion Manti in the next round.
Conversely, North Sanpete got nine total hits, two of them home runs, in the next game against Providence Hall, leading to a huge runaway effort in the top of the fifth inning as they scored eight straight runs in the top of the fifth inning to break a close game open. Sophomore Dally Bailey hit one of the home runs as she led the team in RBI with three. Sophomore Indy North had the other home run, driving in two RBI.
Then, once again, North Sanpete’s hitting woes came back against Canyon View. The Lady Hawks did actually collect six hits as a team, but the Falcons’ nine hits proved far more deadly, especially when driving up 11 runs on the board just in the bottom of the third inning.
The Lady Hawks got a double out of junior Lucy Oldroyd, who had their lone RBI of the game.
Being a young team this season, the Lady Hawks graduate just two seniors from their 2022 squad: Jada Bailey and Heather Howarth.
