MANTI — Manti pulled away in the fourth overtime after a hard-fought battle to defeat North Sanpete 105-92 in a Region 13 boys basketball game on Jan. 7 at North Sanpete High School.
The Templars relied on sustained scoring depth and late execution to close out the marathon contest, which remained tight through regulation and three extra periods before Manti created separation in the fourth overtime.
Carter Mason led Manti with 28 points, while Stone Mortensen added 23. Andrew Rowley finished with 13 points, and Coby Rasmussen chipped in 12 as the Templars spread the scoring load across the lineup.
Manti scored 45 points across the four overtime periods after the game was tied at the end of regulation. The Templars outpaced North Sanpete decisively in the final overtime, capitalizing on three-pointers, free throws and defensive stops to secure the win.
The 105-point total marked Manti’s highest scoring output of the season and snapped a four-game losing streak as the Templars improved their record to 5-11.
North Sanpete stayed competitive throughout the night and received a strong individual performance from James Clayton, who scored 29 points and grabbed six rebounds. Bryce Swapp followed with 24 points while shooting efficiently from the field, and Hudson Smith added 11 points for the Hawks.
The Hawks entered the game at 7-9 and matched Manti through four quarters, finishing regulation deadlocked before eventually wearing down late in overtime. North Sanpete scored 92 points overall but managed only 32 points across the four overtime periods combined.
The teams traded small leads throughout regulation, with neither side able to create sustained separation until Manti’s final overtime push.
