Manti’s Frischknecht brings record-setting resume to BYU football

PROVO—Former Manti High School standout Reggie Frischknecht has joined the BYU football program after a record-setting junior college season at Snow College and a spring stint at Weber State.

Frischknecht will play in Provo following a standout 2024 campaign with the Snow College Badgers, where he led all National Junior College Athletic Association receivers with 14 touchdown receptions. The total set a school record and helped establish him as one of the nation’s top junior college wide receivers.

He finished the season with 38 receptions for 740 yards, leading the Badgers in both categories. His 740 receiving yards ranked 10th nationally, while his 67.3 receiving yards per game ranked 12th. He also averaged 19.5 yards per catch.

Before transferring to BYU, Frischknecht enrolled at Weber State for spring football in 2025.

Frischknecht said playing for BYU has fulfilled a lifelong dream and that he is eager to take on a larger role this season as the Cougars pursue what he believes could be a special year.

“Ever since I was a kid, BYU was the dream for me,” he said. “This was always the school I wanted to represent. Having the opportunity to wear the ‘Y’ and play for Coach Kalani is something I’ll never take for granted. This upcoming season has all the makings of something special, and knowing I’ll have the opportunity to play a much bigger role makes me even more excited.”

Frischknecht’s journey to BYU was not a direct one, but his mother Kristin said the destination never changed. She said her son remained committed to his longtime dream despite setbacks, earning the opportunity through perseverance and determination.

“Reggie may have taken the scenic route to get to BYU, but BYU was never just a school for him, it was his dream,” Kristin said. “Watching him refuse to give up when the path wasn’t easy has been the greatest privilege of our lives. As parents, there is nothing more rewarding than having a front-row seat to watching your kids chase their dreams with everything they have. He earned every bit of it himself.”

A Manti High School graduate, Frischknecht was one of the school’s most accomplished multi-sport athletes, earning first-team 3A All-State honors in football, basketball and baseball as a senior. He also received second-team all-state recognition in football as both a sophomore and junior.

Manti High School Athletic Director Susan Hatch, who also taught Frischknecht in school, said the same qualities that made him an accomplished student-athlete in high school continue to serve him well as he begins his career at BYU.

“Being both the athletic director and a teacher at Manti High School, I had the opportunity to see Reggie’s character both on and off the field,” Hatch said. “Reggie was in my English class his sophomore year of high school. And just as Reggie has excelled in athletics, he also excelled in the classroom. This was evident in Reggie receiving academic all-state and all- region honors in the sports he participated in. In addition, Reggie was polite, kind, and respectful to his fellow classmates as well as the students and  faculty members at Manti High School. To me, Reggie’s attention to detail in the classroom carried over to the sports he participated in and continues on the field at BYU. These qualities will undoubtedly continue to contribute to Reggie’s future success.”

Frischknecht graduated as Manti’s all-time leader in receiving yards and touchdown receptions. As a senior, he set single-season school records with 1,750 receiving yards and 17 touchdown catches. He completed his high school career with 163 receptions for 2,709 yards and 40 touchdowns while adding 499 kick return yards. Defensively, he recorded 94 tackles and five interceptions.

Off the field, Frischknecht earned Academic First Team honors all four years of high school.

He is the son of Devin and Kristin Frischknecht. His father played football at Snow College and Washington State. Before focusing on football, Frischknecht also competed as an elite-level gymnast.
