VERNAL—The North Sanpete Hawks 13-U All-Stars baseball team is headed for a big next level of competition after proving themselves among the best in the state last week at the Southern Utah State Tournament in Vernal.
The team, made up of kids aged 13 and younger (the “13-U” stands for “13-and-under”), placed second among a field of eight teams.
They’ll now go up against eight other teams, some coming from as far away as Hawaii, at the Pacific Northwest Regional Tournament, which will also be held in Vernal, during the week of July 24.
For the past four years, members of the young team have been working their way to represent all of Southern Utah at the regional tournament. While many of the teams attending have been built from a pool of 150-plus eligible boys, the Hawks roll in with the only eligible 13-year-olds North Sanpete has to offer.
The Hawks will meet their competition at opening ceremonies on July 23, and will kick off tournament play on July 24 with a 2 p.m. game against Central California.
The tournament will be streamed live online so Hawk fans at home can watch and cheer on the team. A link to the live stream can be found on the North Sanpete Baseball Facebook page.
