MT. PLEASANT—Rumors that broke out on social media last Thursday, Jan. 27 of threats to safety at North Sanpete High School, including one post claiming there was an active shooter in the school, were “without merit,” the school administration said in an email to parents the next day.

Students were in an assembly when administrators heard about the rumors. The assembly time was extended a few minutes. Otherwise, the school day went forward as usual.

The email said supposed threats were turned over to the school resource officer and Mt. Pleasant Police Department, who determined they were “rumored threats without merit.” The email added, “There is no evidence of a threat being made by any of our students.”

The email advised parents to notify school officials immediately if they hear of a threat or see one posted on social media. But it also urged parents to “use good judgment” about posting or sharing unsubstantiated and possibly false information.
