Scott and Lila Bartholomew honored for decades of Sanpete service, selected as grand marshals of fair

FAYETTE—Scott and Lila Bartholomew, who have spent decades serving their family, church and community in Sanpete County, will be honored as the grand marshals of the 2026 Sanpete County Fair this month.

Scott Bartholomew was born in Gunnison and graduated from Gunnison Valley High School in 1971. After serving a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he attended Southern Utah State College, now Southern Utah University, earning an associate degree in electronics in 1975.

He began working for Gunnison Telephone Company at age 16 and remained with the company throughout his career, earning numerous telecommunications endorsements.

While attending college, Scott met Lila Bender. Born in Bismarck, North Dakota, Lila later moved to Las Vegas and attended Southern Nevada Vocational Technical School before transferring to Southern Utah State College.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and a teaching certificate, followed by a master’s degree in education from Grand Canyon University.

Lila spent 42 years with the South Sanpete School District, including years as a full-time educator.

The couple married in March 1976 and settled in Fayette. They raised five children and have 14 grandchildren.

Scott served as a Fayette city councilmember and mayor before becoming a Sanpete County commissioner, a position he has held for 14 years. Lila also served for many years as Fayette’s clerk/treasurer.

Together, the Bartholomews have devoted decades to community organizations, committees, service projects and their church.
