Women knock off USU-Eastern, get comeback win over Southern Nevada

The Lady Badgers picked up two more big wins in the Scenic West Athletic Conference and moved into second place behind undefeated College of Southern Idaho. Snow College knocked off USU-Eastern, 59-50, and then battered the Coyotes of the College of Southern Nevada, 89-49.
The Eagles of USU-E beat the Badgers early in the season, but Snow College has come back to win the last two meetings between these two teams and holds the tie breaker should they finish in a tie. Ashlee Edwards led the Badgers with 20 points and five rebounds. Jenna Czarnecki came off the bench to add ten points, and Sarah Lange led the team with six rebounds to go with her six points off the bench.
“Ashlee had a great offensive game for us,” said Head Coach Zu Grinsell. “She shot really well, and the bench had all kinds of great energy.”
The Badger defense held the Eagles to 31% shooting from the field for the game and caused 17 turnovers, which accounted for 17 points in the Badger win.
On Saturday the Badgers outscored the Coyotes 22-12 in the second quarter to take a 13-point lead and never looked back on their way to the 89-49 victory.
Snow College had four players in double figures, led by Samiana Suguturaga with 18 points. Addi Johnson finished with 16 points, and Edwards and Lange each added 11. Tylie Jones had twelve rebounds and nine points off the bench for the Badgers.
“I was very happy with our rebounding effort,” said Grinsell. “We played good solid defense, and we executed well on offense.”
Kennedy Eskelson was 4/5 from the field and handed out six assists in the win while playing defense against the Coyotes’ top scorer.
“I feel like we are getting better with each game and just realizing how good we can be,” said Grinsell. “We have a tough road to finish the season, so we just have to keep playing as a team and relying on good execution.”
The Badgers will have their final home game on Thursday when they host Colorado Northwestern at 5 p.m. in the Horne Activity Center on the Snow College campus. After that, Snow College will be on the road for the final six games of the regular season.
