HURRICANE—Against tough competition last week, the Templars got a good workout preparing for the impending state tournament.
Manti baseball lost their first game of the week to one of 3A’s top teams, American Leadership Academy, 11-4, last Monday, then they rebounded with a solid 13-10 win over 4A Hurricane on the road last Friday. The Templars’ record moved to 6-8 overall.
Manti played well for the most part against ALA in a game that was played after press time on Monday afternoon. The Eagles got the benefit of well-placed hits that turned into a plethora of doubles. ALA tied up the game with a run in the fourth inning, 3-3, before blasting away in the sixth inning with eight unanswered runs to seal the deal.
Against Hurricane, Manti led from beginning to end, but it was not so easy to put away the Tigers. Manti held a comfortable 9-2 lead after three innings, when Hurricane answered with five runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it a game once again. The Templars were also having struggles fielding and committed six total errors for the game, four of them by the same player.
Manti closed it out with four more runs in the final two innings to seal the game despite a small rally from the Tigers. Sophomore Reggie Frischknecht hit both a double and a triple and led the team with three RBI.
Manti has three games against Delta this week for region play. They’ll host the Rabbits on Tuesday, then play a doubleheader on the road on Friday.
