SPANISH FORK—After a long time struggling to pick up the points, the Lady Hawks had a much-needed winning performance against one of the big schools last week.
North Sanpete softball started out with a rough 7-4 loss at the hands of Carbon at home last Thursday, but they rebounded effectively with a timely 14-3 blowout of 5A Maple Mountain on the road the following Friday. The Lady Hawks moved to 5-13 on the season overall.

The win broke an eight-game streak where North Sanpete was unable to score 10 or more runs in a game. The team went 2-6 in that span.
The loss to Carbon came down to the very thing the Lady Hawks have been missing for much of the season—big hits. A double by junior Lucy Oldroyd was the only non-single from a North Sanpete batter through seven innings. Additionally, the Lady Hawks struggled with a solid day from Carbon’s pitching, striking out 12 times while collecting only seven hits.
Against Maple Mountain, North Sanpete flipped the script, collecting 12 hits as a team. While the Eagles were the ones to have the home run of the day, the Lady Hawks combined for four doubles while sophomore Madyson Steadman hit a triple. Senior Heather Howarth led the team in RBI with four.
The Lady Hawks have an exceptionally busy week ahead of them. After playing a Monday game after press time against Judge Memorial, they’ll play two games against Union on Tuesday (home) and Thursday (away). They’ll then face Juab on Friday at home, and they’ll have another Monday game next week at home against Grand County.
