Gunnison-area stakes to host senior singles social
GUNNISON—Single adults age 50 and older are invited to a dinner and social event Thursday, Aug. 13, at Gunnison City Park.
The regional event is hosted by the Gunnison and Salina stakes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is open to senior singles age 35 and older who live within the Manti Area, including the Mt. Pleasant, Moroni, Manti, Gunnison, Salina and Richfield stakes.
Members of the Gunnison Stake High Council and the stake Relief Society presidency will serve a fried chicken dinner with side dishes.
Entertainment will be provided by The Wacky Winders, led by John Winder of Sandy. Winder and members of his family will perform music from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s and may invite audience participation.
Winder, who was raised in California’s San Fernando Valley, learned to sing harmony from his mother, the late Jeanne Carlston Winder, formerly of Ephraim. He began playing the ukulele and piano as a youth, sang in his high school choir and toured with the Brigham Young University A Cappella Choir in 1968, when the choir won an international competition in Wales.
He has also performed with the John MacRay Trio, the Ray St. John Trio, Rockin’ Robb, the Hound Dogs and the Happy Together Band.
The event begins at 6 p.m. at the west pavilion in Gunnison City Park.
