GVHS inducts two former coaches into Hall of Fame

GUNNISON—Gunnison Valley High School inducted two former coaches into its Hall of Fame on Friday, Feb. 2 at a basketball game against Manti.
Reed Roberts of Centerfield was a wrestling coach and popular teacher at the school from the 1970s to the 1990s, taking his team to a state championship in 1982.
Johnny Anderson, of Mayfield, a baseball coach, and much-loved teacher, took his team to win the state championship in 1993.
The two were honored and presented with a plaque during halftime. With their families, they were the guests of honor at a meet and greet after the game. Pictures of both now hang in the school’s gym.
GVHS began the annual Hall of Fame tradition last year with first inductees the late Woodrow Beck, a former GVHS principal from the late 1940s to the 1960s, and former coach Danny Hill who taught basketball and baseball from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Hill took his teams to five state championships in basketball and four in baseball.
“This has been turned into a really good tradition,” Assistant Principal Rhett Jackson said. “It’s a way for our school to give back to the people who made Gunnison Valley High School such a great place.”
At the game, which was the final home game of the season, GVHS also honored its four senior basketball players, Tyler Frances, Drew Hill, Cole Stewart and Gage Mogle.
For the game, the South Sanpete School District opened the gates to the community which it does once a season as a yearly tradition at both GVHS and Manti. So there was an especially large crowd to see GVHS beat Manti in overtime by a score of 61-55.
