Hawks strike with 9 seconds left, stun Delta to remain unbeaten

MT. PLEASANT—With nine seconds left and the game hanging in the balance, North Sanpete needed one more play.

In that nine second span, Hawks quarterback Luke Lee found Milo Hendry for a 19-yard touchdown, and the Hawks stunned Delta 21-14 Friday night to remain unbeaten.

The late score capped a back-and-forth second half in which Delta had taken a 14-7 lead before North Sanpete rallied to tie the game and set up the final possession.

North Sanpete struck first when Trexon Madsen scooped up a fumble and raced 72 yards for a touchdown. Delta answered in the third quarter with touchdown runs from Bronx Hunt and Jacen Johnson to take its first lead of the night.

The Hawks responded with Lee connecting with Chaetton Osborne on a 6-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 14.

Then, with time winding down, North Sanpete put together the winning drive. Lee delivered the decisive pass to Hendry, who hauled it in for the 19-yard score with just nine seconds remaining.

Trevor Mann powered the Hawks’ ground game with 134 yards on 21 carries. Lee completed 8 of 15 passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns while adding 23 yards rushing.

Hendry finished with two receptions for 23 yards, including the game-winning touchdown. Madsen led the North Sanpete defense with seven tackles and his fumble-return touchdown.

The victory moves North Sanpete to 3-0 on the season, while Delta falls to 2-1.
